Correction: Funding for Port Stanley Festival TheatrePublished on March 03, 2021
Last week, we shared on behalf of the Hon. Lisa MacLeod, Minister of Heritage, Tourism, Sport and Culture Industries that the Ontario government is investing more than $6 million to support 76 local and virtual events and initiatives through the 2020 Reconnect Festival and Event Program, including $42,142 for a production at the Port Stanley Festival Theatre.
Unfortunately, due to the current pandemic conditions which were impossible to forecast at the time of the program intake, the proposed safely-adapted production is not able to proceed as planned. The Fixer Upper was intended to be a three-week run play to a COVID- safe, reduced house maximum of 50 per show.
"While we are truly grateful for the funds extended through the Festival and Events Reopening Program, we regret that we are unable to avail ourselves at the present time. We feel it's still a little too early to invite patrons safely back into out theatre, although we are confident that time is coming soon! Thanks to all who continue to help us with much needed moral and financial support". Simon Joynes, Artistic Director, Port Stanley Festival Theatre.
The Theatre is working with the office of Jeff Yurek, MPP and Ministry of Heritage, Tourism, Sport and Culture Industries to pursue alternative opportunities as part of the Ontario government’s support for community arts and culture.
