WEST LORNE—Jeff Yurek, MPP for Elgin-Middlesex-London, is thrilled to announce a provincial investment of $600,000 for a childcare renovation at St. Mary’s Catholic Elementary School in West Lorne. The project will create 15 childcare spaces and 1 childcare room.

“The addition of new childcare spaces at St. Mary's Catholic School is great news for western Elgin,” said Jeff Yurek, MPP for Elgin – Middlesex - London. “This investment will provide choice and flexibility for families and new opportunities for children.”

The project is part of a province-wide investment of more than $600 million to support new school and childcare spaces that were recently announced by Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education. The overall investment will support 78 school and childcare related projects. As part of this investment, the province dedicated more than $565 million to create more than 19,700 new student spaces and 1,500 childcare spaces at schools across the province.

“On behalf of the residents of West Elgin I would like to thank MPP Yurek, the Ministry of Education, and LDCSB for recognizing the need for childcare at St. Mary’s,” said Mayor Duncan McPhail. “This decision has resulted in increased accessibility and choice for families.”

The investment is part of the Ontario government’s commitment to provide $14 billion to support school construction over ten years. There are currently more than 300 childcare and education building-related projects in development across Ontario with more than 100 actively under construction.

“This is great news for West Elgin and the LDCSB” said Bill Hall, Vice Chair of the London District Catholic School Board of Trustees. “St. Mary’s is a vibrant school community. This renovation will provide some much-needed space for children to learn and grow.”

Ontario’s investment in new and updated schools will create the foundation for a modern learning environment for hundreds of students across the province.

“Our schools continue to grow,” said Vince Romeo, Director of Education, London District Catholic School Board. “This renovation will help with current needs and will also help accommodate new children moving into the area.”
