ELGIN COUNTY—Jeff Yurek, MPP for Elgin-Middlesex-London, is thrilled to announce the long-awaited removal of the Ministry of Transportation land designation along Highway 3 in the eastern portion of Elgin County.

“I am proud to have achieved this significant economic development opportunity for Elgin County and local municipalities,” said Jeff Yurek, MPP. “Now that the designation has been lifted, municipalities can begin planning to attract new development that will benefit from our strong local economy and transportation networks.”

Through Order in Council 699/2021, the Ministry revokes the 1970 Controlled-Access Highway designation of potions of Highway 3 in the Township of Malahide, Town of Aylmer, and County of Elgin. This amendment is fully supported by all affected municipalities.

“I would like to thank the Province of Ontario for removing the Eastern Elgin Highway 3 Bypass designation affecting lands in the Town of Aylmer, and the Township of Malahide,” said Elgin County Warden Tom Marks. “I would also like to sincerely thank MPP Jeff Yurek for his advocacy efforts on behalf of Elgin County to make this a reality. Elgin County has advocated for the removal of the Highway 3 Bypass designation for several terms of County Council and it is exciting, after so long, to see it lifted. Since 1970 this designation has restricted development in affected areas and I am excited to see what economic development opportunities have now been made possible for our area.”
