Statement on Province-Wide Lockdown

Published on December 21, 2020

“Today’s news of the upcoming 28-day province wide shutdown is a sobering reminder that we are still far from reaching the end of this pandemic. According to expert advice from the Chief Medical Officer of Health and other health experts, this shutdown has the potential to support and preserve hospital capacity across the province and ensure we have the resources needed to serve all those in need of medical attention. When accompanied by time-limited public health and workplace safety measures similar to those used in other jurisdictions, we can safeguard vulnerable populations and those who care for them and save lives.

The health and safety of the people of Ontario is our government’s top priority. I am very hopeful that these temporary measures will bring us to the home stretch of this terrible experience and one step closer to better times. Please join me in making the lifesaving choice to stay home this holiday season, only celebrate with those in your own household, and safely support small businesses whenever possible. I would like to express my best wishes for a merry Christmas, restful holiday, and healthy new year to all.”
